Project 13: Research – Edward Hopper

I’m still thinking about the concept of or phrase ‘feels like home’, just pondering what do I feel about this home, what is it I want to convey through the print. As this project requires a series of prints I think that allows for different prints that represent different response to home. As I was considering this I came across an article in a magazine I was given that shed some interesting light.

Project 13: ‘Feels like home’ – Pt.2

In my mind making a mask to go over the printing plate with circles would be easy. However I realised in my first attempt at printing the circles using a thick paper as a mask was restricting how much ink I was getting onto the paper. I remembered I’d encountered this problem when using masks for the first time at the start of the course.

Artist Research – Max Ernst

In my latest report from my tutor he advised looking at Max Ernst Collage’s and I remembered a book that I’d brought recently which mentioned Max Ernst. The book is called ‘Just Draw it!’ and offers an alternative improvement to drawing course. It mention’s Max Ernst’s invention of a technique called “frottage”:
