My entry ~ Atelier Sento New Year Doodle Contest

Christmas Day at my family is wonderful, but also a little nutty. To keep myself and my husband sane I worked on a little illustration for a New Year’s Doodle Contest by¬†Atelier Sento.

For the contest I had to do a 9cm x 9cm square drawing of Mizuka, the main charecter from their upcoming adventure game. I mentioned Atelier Sento previously after Dan and I brought their comic book which features the character Mizuka.

Anyway my idea was to try and capture Mizuka in a winter scene. At first I thought about placing her in a more British environment or landscape, this just seemed weird. So I had a little look at Atelier Sento’s work on Behance and found some water colour sketches of Japan, one in particular caught my eye and I used this as inspiration for the background.

I then traced the image and began adding colour using Faber-Castell watercolour pencils.

The final stages were adding in some bolder colours using felt tip pens and some fine lines using black pen. It’s simple really but I hope the idea comes across effectively!
