In my first post about this project I had suggested doing a series of prints based on my local shops.Earlier in the week I took a brief trip out to take some photo’s of these shops with an aim for a starting point for sketches. Ideally I’d also have sat and done some sketches whilst I was there but knew I didn’t have the time to in that particular moment.
I tried to take the photo’s from different angles of the high street and also from varying distances:
Long distance photo’s:
Short distance photo’s:
Shop front photo’s:
I found that whilst I was taking photo’s I was most interested in capturing the Butchers rather than the other shops. In fact the butchers was the only shop that retained some of the charm of being a unique business. I particularly like the chalk board sign outside the store, again it had character and a sense of individuality.
It seemed natural to me then to begin my sketches by working from images of the butchers. I’ll write about that in it’s own post so as not to overcrowd this one…
