I said I’d give a coloured print of the collage block a go so chose to colours that fit within the theme of nature (there’s a few thing in the collage under that theme, a deer, flowers, leaves etc). I went for a burnt orange and a sort of olive green?
I did an initial print with cotton water colour paper (soaked for an hour this time) an used to separate rollers to ink the separate halves of the block so there was a green/orange divide. Here’s how it turned out:
I then wanted to try mixing the two by inking the block with green and orange, to give a sort of mottled/rust/moss effect. Here’s how that turned out:
And a close up:
I like the subtly of the green and orange together, it think it highlights the textures better than the black and it shows the variety and bits become more obvious, for instance square of fabric have picked up more of the ink. It sort of reminds me of an aged book page or something that’s been faded by sunlight over time.
I think that may be the last the collage block will take, so I’m moving on to looking into subject areas for the next project…
